Revival Chronicles 03/02/16- The First and Last Laugh

Revival Chronicles 3/2/16

The First and Last Laugh

M and J were recently in town having lunch with us after church, and shared some exciting things the Lord recently brought them through.  It is the type of thing that many are dealing with today, and M said I could share it with you.  As a matter of full disclosure, M & J are part of a great church in another state, have been faithful in tithes and offerings there, and routinely speak (out loud) God's promises over their own lives and circumstances.

M had a long, stable career with a good company.  Then one day, the employees were notified the company was moving overseas, and that they would be unemployed unless they also moved. Most of M's co-workers said they would most likely stay  put and go on unemployment, and that they "wouldn't be able to find work".

M went home and told J, who immediately laughed out  loud, and said "That is great news!  The Lord already has something else for you." (paraphrased)  M was initially taken back by this response, but was also encouraged by her faith.  This was the first laugh.

M then went to a local job fair, set up to help those affected by similar circumstances in that area.  His old boss saw M, and told him he should agree to move to China - that if he didn't, he would never find work.  Before the boss was finished speaking, an unfamiliar person walked up and said "Hey M, I have been looking all over for you.  We want you to come work for us right here, right now.  Do whatever you need to do with notice for your other employer, but we want you whenever you can come." (paraphrased)

While most everyone else is still drawing unemployment, and still talking about not being able to find work, M is already moving ahead with the new company.  He was unemployed for a total of 12 hours - which didn't really count, because it was between pay periods.

Some believe and say that it is foolish or unnecessary to obey the Lord in tithes and offerings, and some say it is nonsense to believe that speaking the promises of God over your life and circumstances actually makes any difference.

But M & J not only had the first laugh when faced with bad news, but also the last laugh, as the promises of God continue to offer a stable footing for them, in a very  unstable world...

Revival Chronicles 02/28/16 - The Jericho March - Rise Up and Walk

"The Jericho March - Rise Up and Walk"

A "Jericho March" is what some call it when people begin marching around the inside of the church.  It doesn't happen all the time, but is often exciting when it does.  Sometimes it might be initiated by the moderator of the service, who asks people to join in.  Other times, it might be initiated by someone in the congregation, responding to the promptings of the Holy Spirit at an appropriate time during the worship service, and in anticipation of a great victory.  The latter is what happened Sunday morning, and we were all witnesses of the miraculous events that followed.

To begin with, a little context.  V. is a Senior with a spinal cord injury, who was paralyzed from her neck down.  She was told in 2013 she would never walk again. Below is a story her hospital wrote about her in their magazine "Vim & Vigor" last year.  Anyway, she and her husband have had a very difficult path to travel the last few years, to say the least.  They live about 50-minutes away, and it is difficult for them to travel to church (or anywhere else).  She began the service in the wheelchair she came in on, as she has for the last few years.

During a time of extended worship Sunday morning, B. began to walk around the church.  Soon, a few others joined in.  Others stayed in their pew, responding to the Lord's presence in a different way, more suited to them.  There was a message in tongues, and an interpretation given.  More worship (of the Lord) followed, and from different areas of the auditorium, there were shouts of excitement and acclamation.  One of the musicians, D., started dancing on the platform with shouts of glee.  She told us afterwards that she was facing knee surgery, and had been having trouble with one of her knees.  She said that during worship, she sensed a warm sensation in that leg, and the pain disappeared.  She got so excited, she began to dance.  Perhaps she won't need that surgery after all...

Meanwhile, in this atmosphere of faith and worship, L. paused the "Jericho March" at the back of the church, behind V. sitting in her wheelchair.  They placed their hands gently on V's back, and began to pray the prayer of faith.  Shortly thereafter, V leaned over to her husband and said "I am getting up."  V had walked halfway down the aisle once before, in a similar setting during a service a few months ago.  Today, she walked all the way down to the front of the church, turned around and walked all the way back.  In the picture, you can see the expression of some of the teenagers, capturing the excitement we all felt to see her walk again.  Her husband said after church, that for the first time since the accident, she was able to get herself back into the car without being lifted.  To God be the glory; great things He has done, and is doing...

"And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up..." (James 5:15a BSV)

Revival Chronicles 02/28/16 - Speak to the Mountain

Revival Chronicles 2/28/16

"Speak to the (Economic) Mountain"

T. had shared with us privately last week how he had been making some declarations over his businesses.  By "declarations", we mean speaking (out loud) the promises of God, as enumerated in the scriptures.  We asked him to share the results with the congregation today.  Sunday morning, he shared with the congregation how the Lord is already blessing his stores, in every town, and how they are seeing breakthroughs come in quickly, in a very difficult  business climate.

“And Jesus answering said to them, 'Have faith in God. For truly I say to you, That whosoever shall say to this mountain, "You be removed, and be cast into the sea"; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatever he says. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.' ”  Mark 11:22-24 (BSV)

Revival Chronicles 02/23/16 - The Keeping Power of God

The Saving and the Keeping Power of God

Recently, (I think last Wednesday night) someone shared at church that they had been addicted to marijuana, and then methamphetamines, for many years.  That night they explained with joy, that they had committed their life to the Lord, and had not used either substance since the summer of 2014.  At that point, someone else shared a word of encouragement with the congregation- that they used to smoke 3 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day, but with a strong desire and by the Grace of God they were able to quit cold turkey, and have not smoked for over 47 years now.

The Gospel is able to transform and deliver us from every sin or destructive habit from which we want to be delivered:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation (for deliverance) to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile."  (Romans 1:16, BSV)

Once delivered, the Lord Himself is able to keep us as well:

“Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”  Jude 1:24-25 ESV

Even though God "is able" to keep us, He asks for our participation and cooperation with the Word of God, and the Holy Spiritoperating in our lives:

"Hold fast and follow the pattern of wholesome and sound teaching which you have heard from me, in [all] the faith and love which are [for us] in Christ Jesus.  Guard and keep [with the greatest care] the precious and excellently adapted [Truth] which has been entrusted [to you], by the [help of the] Holy Spirit Who makes His home in us."  2 Timothy 1:13-14, Amplified

Revival Chronicles 2/18/16

Revival Chronicles - February 18, 2016

Testimony Night...

On Wednesday evening, Feb 17, 2016, more logs were added to an already roaring fire. Worship got a little rowdy and lengthy, as people proclaimed "...sing it again" with heartfelt adoration for the One Who set them free. Testimonies began to roll forth, of people being healed of cancer; some that were previously expected to die (before calling the saints to pray). Always welcome is the continuing presence and testimony of those healed years ago, from Stage-4, and others battling currently, who were told by doctors they would never be healed, but who are believing God anyway. (Apparently they are believing the right things, having made it into their 80's already, lol...)

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." (Psa 103:2-5 ESV)
