Revival Chronicles 02/23/16 - The Keeping Power of God

The Saving and the Keeping Power of God

Recently, (I think last Wednesday night) someone shared at church that they had been addicted to marijuana, and then methamphetamines, for many years.  That night they explained with joy, that they had committed their life to the Lord, and had not used either substance since the summer of 2014.  At that point, someone else shared a word of encouragement with the congregation- that they used to smoke 3 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day, but with a strong desire and by the Grace of God they were able to quit cold turkey, and have not smoked for over 47 years now.

The Gospel is able to transform and deliver us from every sin or destructive habit from which we want to be delivered:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation (for deliverance) to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile."  (Romans 1:16, BSV)

Once delivered, the Lord Himself is able to keep us as well:

“Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”  Jude 1:24-25 ESV

Even though God "is able" to keep us, He asks for our participation and cooperation with the Word of God, and the Holy Spiritoperating in our lives:

"Hold fast and follow the pattern of wholesome and sound teaching which you have heard from me, in [all] the faith and love which are [for us] in Christ Jesus.  Guard and keep [with the greatest care] the precious and excellently adapted [Truth] which has been entrusted [to you], by the [help of the] Holy Spirit Who makes His home in us."  2 Timothy 1:13-14, Amplified

Revival Chronicles 2/18/16

Revival Chronicles - February 18, 2016

Testimony Night...

On Wednesday evening, Feb 17, 2016, more logs were added to an already roaring fire. Worship got a little rowdy and lengthy, as people proclaimed "...sing it again" with heartfelt adoration for the One Who set them free. Testimonies began to roll forth, of people being healed of cancer; some that were previously expected to die (before calling the saints to pray). Always welcome is the continuing presence and testimony of those healed years ago, from Stage-4, and others battling currently, who were told by doctors they would never be healed, but who are believing God anyway. (Apparently they are believing the right things, having made it into their 80's already, lol...)

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." (Psa 103:2-5 ESV)

More to follow...

Revival Chronicles 2/14/16

Revival Chronicles - Feb 14, 2016

On Sunday morning, February 1, 2016, the Holy Spirit again moved mightily among us.    Following a time of lingering in His presence during worship, Sis Sheri released a Word of knowledge indicating that the Lord was calling some to Himself, and issued an altar invitation.

( "To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.  For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit..." I Corinthians 12:7-8 ESV)

One of those sensing the Lord speaking to him had been a Christian believer for several years, coming to Christ as a teenager.  Recently, he had started attending church with us here, when not working elsewhere as a Union Laborer/Journeyman.

He said he almost felt like running to the front, when this invitation was given, and could sense the presence/power of the Holy Spirit leading him.  One of the youth Ministers, felt impressed to place his hand on this young man's head, and minister to him - praying for him, and sharing what he believed the Lord was speaking over his life.

("...the one who prophesies [who interprets the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching] speaks to men for their upbuilding and constructive spiritual progress and encouragement and consolation." I Corinthians 14:3 Amplified)

Others were standing behind him, and also praying for him to receive what Jesus told His disciples to expect, from the Holy Spirit.

("...you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses..." - Jesus, as quoted in Acts 1:8 ESV).

He said he felt an overwhelming power come over him; like when he came to salvation, x10.  He began to speak in another language, that he had never learned, as when others received this experience in the early church.

("And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." Acts 2:4 ESV).

He said he had been attending a different type of Christian church for most of his life, but said that he was unfamiliar with this type of presence and power of the Holy Spirit, and with the manifestation of spiritual gifts operating in the lives of people/ministers during a worship service or otherwise.  The same thing was true in the days of the early church, when some disciples had not heard about nor experienced what Jesus told  His disciples to expect.

("And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.  And he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." Acts 19:1-2 ESV)

("And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. Acts 19:6 ESV)

This young man received this same Holy Ghost experience.  Since then he has experienced some amazing things.  He has shared his testimony with others, and says the Lord is all he wants to talk about.  He has had opportunity to pray for people outside of church, and they have been physically healed.  And  he has shared with me that his previous desire for nicotine and cigarettes has been replaced with a desire for more of the Holy Spirit in his life.  We are excited about what the Holy Spirit is doing in this young man's life, and also what He is doing in our midst...

Revival Chronicles 2/12/16

Revival Chronicles February 12, 2016

We wrote earlier about a visitor from out of town we had, and how they were ministered to by a message in tongues and an interpretation that came forth in the congregation, during the service recently on a Wednesday night, during the worship service.  Both the message in tongues, and the interpretation, were uttered not from the pulpit, but in the pews.

("What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up." I Corinthians 14:26 ESV)

Since that time, this visitor has called requesting to be baptized, as have others in attendance during the midweek service.  This baptism is scheduled for Wednesday night, February 24.  If others are in need of baptism, you are welcome to join us as well, by contacting the Pastors...

Revival Chronicles 1/31/16

On Wednesday night, (1/27/2016), there was a message in tongues, and an interpretation given.  We also had a visitor in service with us, familiar with the Italian language.  After the service, they stayed after to be ministered to, and asked about the message in tongues.  They said the message was in Italian, and they had never experienced that in a church service before.  None of us at church know or speak Italian; so to God be the glory.  He seemed genuinely moved by what he received from the Lord, as were the rest of us...

"...tongues are for a sign..." (1 Corinthians 14:22)
